Australia is partnering with the Solomon Islands Government and the Solomon Islands Submarine Cable Company (SISCC) to develop a second international submarine telecommunications cable for the Solomon Islands, named the Adamasia Cable System 1.
The announcement was made jointly by Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manele and Australian Senator the Hon. Nita Green, Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, during the Australia-Solomon Islands Business Forum.

The project will be financed through the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP), with a combined grant and loan package totaling USD 72.71 million (approximately AUD 104 million)—comprising an AUD 71.9 million grant and AUD 31.9 million loan.
Spanning 1,015 kilometers, the Adamasia Cable System will connect with Google’s Bulikula system, providing the Solomon Islands with more resilient international connectivity. The project is expected to generate significant economic and social opportunities for local businesses and government services.
In addition to enhancing connectivity, the project will improve disaster resilience, reducing the risk of outages during severe weather and providing critical redundancy for the existing international cable network.

As part of Australia’s commitment to climate-resilient infrastructure, the financing package includes an AUD 1.8 million contribution from the AIFFP’s Pacific Climate Infrastructure Financing Partnership to support off-grid electricity generation and storage capabilities.
The Adamasia Cable System marks the third major AIFFP project in the Solomon Islands, complementing five smaller off-grid renewable energy initiatives delivered through Renew Pacific. Together, these projects highlight the shared commitment of Australia and the Solomon Islands to delivering essential, climate-resilient infrastructure that drives long-term social and economic benefits.
