Digital Realty Expands in Lagos with Direct 2Africa Cable Access

Digital Realty LKK2

Digital Realty has announced the opening of its third data center in Lagos, strategically designed to enhance subsea cable connectivity and accelerate digital transformation across West Africa.

Located in the coastal area of Lekki, the new facility, LKK2, adds nearly 2MW of installed IT capacity across nearly 13,000 square feet of data hall space. More importantly, LKK2 will interconnect with Digital Realty’s existing LKK1 facility, which serves as the landing station for the 2Africa subsea cable, one of the largest subsea cable systems in the world.

This integration provides customers with seamless, low-latency access to the cable’s 46+ landing points across 33 countries spanning Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

By leveraging the 2Africa subsea system, LKK2 delivers robust global connectivity, empowering businesses in West Africa to reach international markets with high-speed, reliable interconnection. This setup supports improved application performance and enhances access to global digital ecosystems through Digital Realty’s carrier-neutral platform.

The new facility also integrates with ServiceFabric, Digital Realty’s global interconnection and orchestration platform, ensuring high-throughput connectivity to local, regional, and international destinations. Through ServiceFabric, LKK2 connects with LOS1—the region’s top internet peering point—and LOS2, Digital Realty’s highly connected data centers on Victoria Island.

This ecosystem ensures resilience, redundancy, and scale for enterprises and hyperscale providers expanding into Africa’s fast-growing digital market.

“LKK2 is a significant milestone in our journey to support digital transformation in Africa,” said Ike Nnamani, Managing Director, Digital Realty in Nigeria. “Our continued investment in Nigeria and the broader African region reinforces our commitment to enabling seamless global interconnectivity and providing a future-ready infrastructure platform for local and global enterprises.”

Digital Realty continues to position itself as a key enabler of Africa’s digital future, and the integration of subsea cable connectivity with its expanding Lagos footprint underscores the company’s strategy to deliver the infrastructure and international reach needed for innovation and growth across the continent.

LKK2, set to become operational later this year, will provide both local enterprises and multinational organizations with secure, interconnected infrastructure and direct access to subsea cable routes, creating a critical hub for global data exchange in West Africa.
